advancing blade

advancing blade
In a translational flight, the rotor blade moving forward into the relative airflow (i.e., it is moving in the same direction as the helicopter). Each blade advances through 180° of its travel, normally from dead-astern to dead-ahead. In the case of clockwise-rotating rotors, the advancing blade will be in the left half of the rotor disc when the helicopter is moving forward; if moving backward, it will be in the right half. If moving sideward to the left, it will be in the rear half; and if moving sideward to the right, it will be in the forward half.
